We want buykalkan.com to be easy to use for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification or larger text. This page explains the standard we aim for, what we have done, where we know we still fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard most public bodies in the UK and the EU work to.
What we have done
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link.
- Text is checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratios, including text shown over photos.
- Buttons that show only an icon (share, save ♥, photo arrows, close) have spoken labels in your language.
- Photo galleries tell screen readers which photo you are on, for example “Photo 3 of 20”.
- If a form needs correcting, the message appears next to the field it belongs to, is read out, and the cursor moves to the first field to fix.
- Each page has one main heading and headings in a logical order.
- Text in a different language from the page (for example an English description on a translated page) is marked, so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
- Pages still work when zoomed to 200% or with larger text, and buttons and links are big enough to tap on a phone.
- The site reads right to left in Arabic.
Known limitations
- Some property photos do not yet have a written description of what they show.
- Video tours are hosted on YouTube and not all of them have captions.
- Maps come from outside services that we cannot make fully accessible; each home’s area is always written out in its details too.
- Printed brochures and posters are designed for paper. If you need a home’s details in another format, ask us and we will email them.
- Our sister websites, Book Kalkan and Build Kalkan, are not covered by this statement.

How we check
We test the site ourselves, with automated checks and by hand: with a keyboard, with 200% zoom and larger text, on a phone, and in English and Arabic (right to left). This statement was prepared on 13 October 2026 and is reviewed whenever the site changes significantly.
